State Attorney Steve Meadows announces the sentencing, in Washington County Circuit Court, of Karlene Ann Alexander.
Alexander, 43, of Chipley, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the July 20, 2005, second-degree murder of William Eugene Roberts. Alexander and Roberts were living together in Chipley at the time of his death.
Alexander had been charged with 1st degree murder but offered to plead to second-degree murder. The victim’s mother, Eugenia Roberts, appeared by telephone and asked the court to accept the offer. Washington County Sheriff Bobby Haddock and Assistant State Attorney Barbara M. Finch also asked the court to comply with the wishes of Mrs. Roberts.
While in jail awaiting disposition of the murder charge; Alexander was charged with battery on a detainee and battery on a correctional officer. She entered pleas to those charges and was sentenced to an additional one year and one day in prison, to be served consecutively to the murder sentence. |
