State Attorney Steve Meadows announces the plea and sentence, in Bay County Circuit Court, of Jeremy Matthew Hunt on charges of DUI Manslaughter and Leaving the Scene of an accident involving death.

Hunt, WM, DOB: 3-28-1987, 4101 East Street, Southport, entered his pleas in connection with the October 13, 2007, hit and run death of Clint Stephen Malone. Malone, visiting from Vero Beach, was riding a bicycle on Thomas Drive as his wife ran along, training for a race. Hunt’s vehicle struck Malone and left the scene.

Three days later, a relative of Hunt, called Sheriff Frank McKeithen and made arrangements for surrender. Evidence gathered included video, from a local bar, showing Hunt drinking and testimony of a witness who described the appearance of impairment.

Hunt, who had no previous criminal record, was sentenced to 10 years prison, followed by 20 years probation. Terms of probation include: quarterly talks about the facts of his case, one of which must be on the anniversary of the crime; 1,000 hours of public service work; zero tolerance for alcohol. His license was permanently revoked.
